ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK TO NEW MOVIE FROM ACADEMY AWARD-WINNING DIRECTOR ALEX GIBNEY,

SET FOR RELEASE ON MAY 21, 2013

LOS ANGELES, CA — May 8, 2013 – Back Lot Records will issue a digital release of the soundtrack for We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks, the new documentary from Academy Award winner Alex Gibney, on Tuesday May 21st . A world premiere at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks will be released by Focus World in New York and Los Angeles on Friday, May 24th and in select cities on Friday, May 31st; and on digital platforms including VOD beginning on Friday, June 7th.

Filmed with the startling immediacy of unfolding history, Academy Award-winning director Alex Gibney’s (Taxi to the Dark Side, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room) new movie We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks details the creation of Julian Assange’s controversial website, which facilitated the largest security breach in U.S. history, and is a riveting, multi-layered tale about transparency in the information age and our ever-elusive search for the truth. The movie is MPAA-rated “R.” Visit the film’s official site at www.WeStealSecretsMovie.com.

“I’ve been a fan of Alex [Gibney]‘s work for a long time, so it was great to finally work
together on such an important project,” comments Will Bates, founder of Fall On Your
Sword. “Alex really wanted the music to have a cinematic edge to it. The score is very
thematic and character-driven, like the film itself. Composing for a movie where the story
was unfolding in real time was a unique experience.”

On April 24th, TIME released an in-depth article on Joseph Trapanese and his collaborative work with major recording artists such as M83 (‘Oblivion’), Daft Punk (‘TRON: Legacy’) and Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park (‘The Raid: Redemption’). Read the entire article here. Here is an excerpt below.

If M83 was a solid pick to dream up music for an elegant sci-fi picture, Trapanese was the right man to marry that sound to an orchestra for a touch of cinematic grandeur. He’s a conservatory-trained musician who developed an interest in electronic music when he was a teenager, and he decided early on to pursue the orchestral life after a middle-school encounter with another movie that combined outer space fantasy with symphony sounds: Star Wars. “If you talk to 50 other L.A.-based composers, they’ll all tell you the same thing,” Trapanese, 28, says.

Perhaps more importantly, Trapanese also knows how to be the missing link between a mainstream musical act and the film world, having arranged and orchestrated with Daft Punk as well as Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda on the score for 2011’s martial arts flick The Raid: Redemption, which Trapanese and Shinoda cooked up in about six weeks. “We work very well together because he’s doing things I can’t do, and I’m doing things he can’t really do either, so we’re very complementary,” says Gonzalez, who previously worked with Trapanese on Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. “He’s a genius.”

On April 21st, the jury of the 2013 Nordic Film Music Prize awarded Tuomas Kantelinen for his “wonderfully sensitive scoring” for the Finnish film ‘Puhdistus’ (or ‘Purge’) by director Antti Jokinen.

The jury released a statement saying, “Although we want to stress the very high quality level of every one of the five scores are presented to us in this selection, we feel that the original music of “Purge” stood out because of its probability to convey with great sophistication, melodic sense and sensitivity the deep, emotional complexity of the characters and to underline the extreme hardship of the circumstances should without ever resorting to easy solutions.”

The nominees were Benny Andersson (of ABBA fame) for ‘Palme’, Peter Peter for ‘Over kanten’, Ben Frost & Daniel Bjarnason for ‘The Deep’ and Peder Kjellsby for ‘Varg Veum Kalde hjerter.’ Kantelinen comments, “All five nominees are already winners because we have the joy and privilege to work on our dream job every day.” Nominees were chosen by each country’s composer guild (i.e. SCL in the US). This year’s international jury consisted of composers Bernard Grimaldi (France, founding member and co-president of FFACE, the European Association of Film Composers), Richard Bellis (USA) and Loek Dikker (NL).

Tuomas is currently composing the music for frequent collaborator Sergei Bodrov’s movie ‘The Seventh Son,’ a fantasy action adventure film by Legendary Pictures starring Jeff Bridges, Julianne Morre and Ben Barnes. He is sharing composing duties with AR Rahman (‘Slumdog Millionaire’).
