On May 11, 2012 the blog MTV Geek interviewed three White Bear PR clients in a roundtable interview discussing scoring for animation. Joseph Trapanese, Jeremy Zuckerman and Kevin Manthei chatted about their process of writing for “Tron: Uprising”, “The Legend of Korra” and “Ultimate Spider-Man” (respectively).

The Track Team garners Daytime Emmy Award Nomination

On May 9th, The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominees for the 39th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. White Bear PR clients, Jeremy Zuckerman & Benjamin Wynn (aka The Track Team) garnered their first nomination for their work on “Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness”. Dave Porter at ASCAP EXPO

On April 19th, Dave Porter was invited to speak at ASCAP’s “I Create Music” EXPO in Hollywood. Dave spoke on a panel titled “Behind the Scenes: The Musical Anatomy of a Hit TV Show” alongside panelists Greg Sill (Music Supervisor Justified), John Dickson (Composer Burn Notice), Kevin Bassinson (Music Editor Burn Notice), Steve Porcaro (Composer Justified), and moderator Thomas Golubic (Music Supervisor Breaking Bad).

Wendy & Lisa on The Huffington Post

On March 23rd, composers Wendy Melvoin & Lisa Coleman were interviewed by The Huffington Post on their newly premiered television series ‘Touch’ on Fox. Journalist Xaque Gruber visited them in their recording studio in Hollywood to conduct the interview where they discussed their career as composers, working closely with show-runner Tim Kring, and reuniting with The Revolution for a National Heart Association benefit concert in Minneapolis.

Reel to Reel: Grammy Museum Panel

On March 20th, Joseph Trapanese and Mike Shinoda spoke on a panel at The Grammy Museum to discuss their scoring work on “The Raid: Redemption”. The panel was moderated by Vice President of the Grammy Foundation and MusiCares, Scott Goldman. A full house interacted with the panelists with engaging questions and interest in the break down of scoring a scene. Joseph and Mike showed clips from the film and displayed an action scene with no music and then again with music to emphasize the impact of music on a scene.

“Famous TV Theme Music” at WonderCon

On March 16th, White Bear PR teamed up with BMI to produce an engaging panel of speakers to discuss the impact and importance of the Main Title Theme in television. Panelists included the legendary Charles Fox (“Happy Days”, “Laverne and Shirley”, “Love Boat”, “The New Adventures of Wonder Woman”), Wendy Melvoin & Lisa Coleman (“Carnivale”, “Heroes”, “Touch”) and Jeremy Zuckerman & Benjamin Wynn (“Avatar the Last Airbender”, “The Legend of Korra”). Actress, Karen David (‘Kayla’ in “Touch”), introduced the panel citing

“Main Title Music is essential to pull us into the world we are about to experience. It acts as a gateway to prepare us for the show we are about to watch. “

Wall Street Journal.com called the panel “one of the most interesting events [at] WonderCon“.

Trapanese raids SXSW

White Bear PR attended the 2012 South by Southwest Film Festival this month in support of Joseph Trapanese and his score to The Raid: Redemption (note: new film title since Sundance). It was a whirlwind press tour which included a late-night screening at the beautiful Paramount Theater in Austin, Texas, followed by a press junket and a music panel entitled “Artists Scoring Films” moderated by Phil Gallo of Billboard Magazine.

Joseph along with his scoring partner, Mike Shinoda gave a number of interviews together including Fangoria, Criterioncast, Lost In Reviews (VIDEO), Film School Rejects, NerdLocker, The Venture, Ain’t It Cool News, Fandango, and more.

On Tuesday, March 13th, Joseph spoke on a panel of professionals discussing new trends in scoring films. Panelists included Kier Lehman – Director of Music Creative Affairs at Sony, Mark Nishita (aka Money Mark) – member of The Beastie Boys, Todd Bozung – Supervising Music Editor, and Mike Shinoda. Together they discussed the new trend of artists scoring films and the impact it has within the studio system.
